does ultrasn0w work with UK carrier on 3gs? or do i need yellowsn0w?

Hi guys just jailbroken my iphone 3gs running 3.0.

proceeded to install ultrasn0w, rebooted, inserted sim card but coming up with "no service"

is this because ultrasnow doesnt work with 3gs or do i need a different program that caters for UK carriers?

I am trying to use it on UK network O2.

Help would greatly be appreciated!!!

That's strange. I have a 3GS initially on firmware 3.0, JB with Purplera1n and unlocked with Purplesn0w. Then upgraded to 3.1.2 using Pwnage tool 3.1.4 and unlocked with Ultrasn0w. It worked. I did not use Redsn0w. It is a UK phone on PAYG with O2.

im not sure if my jailbreak has gone through properly.

when clicking restore while holding shift, it kicks up a fuss when it reaches the stage of verifying with apple.

been told i possibly need to get pwnage tool to create a custom ipsw file and it should work from there.

Wow, this thread is full of absolutely false information.

OP: I would bet money that when you jailbroke your phone, you checked the little "activate" box (or the custom IPSW you found had it checked) when you used Pwnage Tool.

Basically - O2 is the offical carrier for the iPhone in the UK, so you need to activate the phone normally - you cannot "hacktivate" or it won't work. Moreover, you don't need to use ultrasn0w since O2 is the official carrier.

Since you have the 3Gs, Jailbreaking is a little bit more work, in terms of ensuring your jailbreak for the future. You best bet is to download Pwnage Tool 3.1.4 and create a custom IPSW with the official 3.1.2 IPSW leaving the "activate" box unticked.

This is assuming you've got a UK phone. If you (I don't know why you would do this, as it's more money in the long run if I understand UK plans at all) bought a US 3Gs off eBay or something, I don't think it will activate with O2, you then need to tick the activate box. I'm not certain on this part, and a quick google search revealed pages of failure with no real information.

Pwnage Tool is strictly mac only. Your best bet is probably going to be to update to 3.1.2 official and then wait until tomorrow and use Blackra1n/Blacksn0w to jailbreak/unlock.
