HELP!!!! My iphone wont jailbreak w/ redsn0w

hey modmyi'ers,
i recently tried to restore my iphone 3g and then jailbreak it again because cydia wasnt working properly before so i was trying to start on a clean slate. I want to add that I need to unlock my iphone 3g for tmobile. So before i restored it, I saved all my apps and cydia preferences via open ssh and then cyberduck on my mac. So after I restored it, I tried jailbreaking and it would get stuck on the downloading jailbreak screen but redsn0w would say "finish" and I'd click it but no pineapple. I tried redns0w and quickpwn through both my mac and pc without success. I think the problem might be that when i restored and updated the firmware to 3.1.2, it for some reason wouldnt let me unlock properly so the jailbreak wouldnt work?? Im only spitballing here because i am so frustrated I cant think straight. Somebody PLEASEEE help me find a way jailbreak and unlock this iphone properly. It would be greatly appreciatted(you would be saving me because my iphone is my life)

You cant jailbreak your firmware 3.1.2 by Redsn0w. you will need to to jailbreak your iphone with blackra1n. i hope you didn't update your iphone live did you ?

i may have updated my iphone when i restored it but i am not sure. that would probably explain why im having so many problems. what do you recommend for my situation?

So, this isn't going to make you happy but

You've updated your phone to 3.1.2 via iTunes restore and now you are completely unable to unlock your phone for use with T-Mobile.

Updating from 3.0/3.0.1 to 3.1/3.1.2 updates your baseband (your modem firmware) to 05.11.xx, which is currently unable to be unlocked for use with other carriers. There's nothing you can do for it to be unlocked.

In terms of jailbreaking the phone, redsn0w does not work with the current firmware and you need to use the updated Pwnage Tool (3.1.4) to jailbreak the official 3.1.2 iPhone IPSW and then restore to the custom IPSW you made in iTunes. This jailbreaks the current iPhone firmware and also preserves your current baseband which, if it's 04.26.08 or earlier, will enable you to software unlock your phone.

There's a slight, small, ridiculously tiny chance that your phone might possibly be one of the very few (have I used enough modifiers yet?) that has the 5.08 bootloader. If this is the case you can downgrade your baseband to 04.26.08 and unlock again.

To do this jailbreak your phone using either the above method or using blackra1n, install "fuzzyband" from Cyida. Run it. It will tell you your bootloader version and whether or not you can perform the downgrade.

Like I said this is extremely unlikely.

i think he needs to try with blackra1n first . about the unlock i believe he will join the club

Blackra1n is supposedly shaky on the iPhone 3G. Geohot mentioned that he had to attempt several jailbreaks before one "took" on his friends 3G. I would recommend using Pwnage Tool before Blackra1n, but too each his own!

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but in order for Blackra1n to work, don't you need to be running an official version of 3.1.2? That makes Blackra1n an impossible solution for anyone that wishes to unlock their phone (since Blackra1n is only for the iPhone 3G/s).

The guy got iphone 3g not 3gs. some people jailbreak iphone by updating via i tunes . and other people download the firmware then restore it from i tunes and this way don't update the beasband. in this guy case he restore and update via i tunes so he got no way to unlock his phone again he will need to wait for new unlock but he still have a chance for jailbreak his iphone

hey Myphone305 tell us what Modem firmware you got now ?????if you got the 5.11.07 then you wont be bale to unlock your iphone . you will have to wait for new unlock but you still able to jailbreak your iphone again

im not sure, it wont let me check where because right now its on the restore screen(screen with itunes logo and usb plug). So usually how long does it take the dev-team to make a new unlock because im praying on that right now, i appreciate all the help from everybody though. Im gonna try blackra!n now and everything

okay if you gonna use the Blackra1n turn off your iphone first then run Blackra1n and click on( make it ra1n ) then turn your iphone on and you will see Blackra1n says runing then you will get picture for gethot jailbreak.if this don't work with you let me know.

MyPhone305, it sounds like you're rather confused about what it happening. Blackra1n will only work on an official 3.1 or 3.1.2 IPSW, and generally only on a 3Gs. It will still work on a 3G but sometimes has problems.

From your OP you said you updated to 3.1.2 -> did you do this via iTunes? The "restore" button without selecting a custom file? If so, you can no longer unlock your phone.

How did you end up in restore mode? There's a specific key combination you have to press to get there and/or you have to have had something go terribly wrong...what were you doing when it happened?

And what is your stated goal here...you're clearly trying to jailbreak your phone. And I'm assuming you're trying to unlock it as well? Are you on T-Mobile?

Trying to help but I don't have a clear picture of 1) what your current situation is and 2) where you're trying to end up.

okay so it turns out that i restored my phone to 3.0.1 firmware jailbroken through itunes - shift - restore and jailbroke it through redsn0w. I went to cydia and downloaded fuzzyband and my bootloader is 5.09. Soo, apparently does this mean im safe in terms of me not having 3.1.2 firmware or in trouble because my baseband isnt 5.08? somebody please help me I am soooo close to solving the problem

When you ran Fuzzyband did it say "Ready for ultrasn0w!" in green letters at the bottom?

Fuzzyband work on 3.1 only with bb 5.8

Fuzzyband works by downgrading the modem firmware (often called the "baseband"). There is an exploit in the bootloader 5.08 which enables it to do this.

OP, you're still not providing a very clear picture of what you're trying to do.

1) Are you trying to Jailbreak and Unlock, or just Jailbreak?
2) What Modem Firmware/Baseband version are you running?
3) What OS version are you running? You say you downgraded to 3.0.1 - I'm assuming that's the latest?
4) Have you jailbroken and installed Fuzzyband? What were the results?

It's hard to help you without a clear picture of what you need.

I am trying to unlock my iphone 3g because i already successfully restored 3.0.1 firmware and then jailbroke it using redsn0w 0.7. According to fuzzyband, here, i attached a screenshot of what my fuzzyband said:

Unfortunately, there is nothing further you can do at the moment. Your phone has been upgraded to an official 3.1 or 3.1.2 firmware and thus the baseband has been upgraded.

It's no longer possible to unlock the phone for use with T-Mobile currently.
