How do I activate iPhone 3GS 3.1 previously activated

I have a iPhone 3GS 3.1 and I have access to a AT&T Sim to activate it but the phone was previously activated and in iTunes it shows up information from the previous owner and login information and won't allow me to update. I know there is not hacktivation for 3.1 3gs yet. Is there any other way? thanks
