I just sold my iphone 2g i tried doing a erase all media and data on the phone and now the phone is just stuck on the pineapple screen can anyone help

How did you erase it? You may have to restore and re-jailbreak.

i did it in the setting screen on the iphone..it wont even connect to my itunes

Try holding the power and home buttons to get it to re-boot. Most likely that won't work but worth a try.
You'll have to put the phone in DFU mode and then restore in iTunes and re-jailbreak it

INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1. Turn off iPhone
Step 2. Hold down the power and home button.
Step 3. When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the home button down.
Step 4. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that it detects iPhone in restore/recovery mode.

Alternative method.
Step 1. While the device is on, hold down the Sleep / Wake and Home buttons for exactly 10 seconds, the device will restart.
Step 2. Release the Sleep / Wake button, but keep holding down the Home button for another 10 seconds.
Step 3. Release the Home button.

Once it is in DFU mode, restore it in iTunes then jailbreak it.

ok that worked but now to unlock it and jail break it i need a valid sim card to activate phone whats next

i downloaded pwnage tool which firmware should i download

Mac or PC? Me personally I would use redsn0w it's more stable, but what ever you choose.
As far as firmware that's also your choice, 3.0, 3.0.1

but pwnage is telling my wrong firmware bundle selected..i downloaded 2.2.1

Tell me the exact name of the firmware your trying to use.

That's for 2.2.1, are you sure you using the correct pwnage tool?
Why not update to 3.0 and use redsn0w?

Did you update your firmware in iTunes to 3.0?

You need iTunes 8.2, then DFU and do a shift/click restore phone to the new firmware you have. Let it load then run redsn0w.
