Factory unlocked or software unlocked?

I bought a 3GS recently and it came with fw 3.0.1 and cydia installed.

when I first time opened cydia it did the "recognizing iphone". In "packages" i looked for ultrasn0w and it is not installed. The url for untralsn0w is not listed in the "sources" section.

Is there any way to find out if my phone is hardware unlocked or software unlocked without restoring it?

If ultrasnow is not listed under the installed packages of Cydia you would think it is factory unlocked. Have you tried different carrier sim cards in it?
