iPhone - hacktivated, warranty?

My situation; I recently got a replacement iPhone from Apple and since it was originally locked, I ended up hacktivating etc. But now I noticed some dead pixels and will need to get it replaced again! ()

Here's the problem, as the iPhone was new and never activated (legitimately) I haven't activated the warranty and will not be able to without a sim card which corresponds to the network that the iPhone is locked to. Are there any way for me to get the iPhone activated with Apple without the sim card or...[your comments here]?

AND - I found out it was under warranty - visited the "geniuses" and got a replacement.
