I just got my girl a iPhone 3gs with 3.0.1 firmware and I just need to unlock it so i can put any sim card min there what needs to be done? redsnow??? or do i first need to downgrade im kinda lost.

use itunes 8.2 do not let itunes update to 9.0

1-run redsnow 3G unlock - official redsn0w devteam site
2-after it jailbreaks and installs cydia
3-open cydia load and run ultrasnow

I am just curious why it is not advisable to update to iTunes 9 for jailbreaking and unlock. I noted from the forum that it is still possible to jailbreak and unlock using iTunes9. Am I wrong?

Better safe than sorry I guess =P it wouldn't hurt to use 8.2
