bought used iphone 3g need help

hello, i have searched and searched and tried and tried to get this to work. i bought an iphone 3g off my friend who bought a 3gs, it already had 3.1fw installed so i used the new 3.1 fw and used the pwn tool. i have tmobile and i cannot get service, is this because he already had 3.1 on the phone? am i completely beat?

Get yourself a 3G with 3.0 on it..

yep sorry... the new 3.1 FW has a new baseband meaning that you cant unlock it for the time being... Unless your friend gave it to you jailbroken on 3.1 with the 4.26.08 baseband you're outta luck
