Iphone working, iTunes says sim card not activated!

Hi all!
I have an unlocked, jailbroken 3G phone on OS 3.0
iTunes version 8.1
my OS is Windows 7(RC 7.100)
My phone has been working fine since i bought it (already unlocked etc, i believe with either ultrasn0w or yellowsn0w based on my cydia packages)
The phone itself is still working perfectly, BUT this mornning iTunes decided that my sim was not activated.
i tried rebooting the phone, pc, removing and re-inserting the simcard, all to no avail.
Has anyone had this problem before? if so, how can i fix it?
If there is an alternate method to manage the songs videos and apps on the iPhone, i wouldnt mind getting rid of iTunes either.
