how to use ATT sim in UNactivated iphone
Ok here's my situation...
I have a first generation iphone that I no longer use.
It's running 3.0 and it's been totally reset and all old content was erased.
I want to give it to a friend who has a gophone acct. I want to put his sim in the phone.
However, it keeps asking to be activated in itunes.
How can I bypass the activation and just use the new sim?
I appreciate any help.

You need to run redsn0w Dev-Team Blog (link for the software). Then it will be activated but make sure that in the process of jailbreaking (within redsn0w), that you use the "unlock" option.

Actually I discovered redsnow before I got the first reply. And yes it did work indeed. Thanks.

So after you jailbroke it via RedSnow, it never showed the 'waiting to activate' message and you were good to go? You then just went to cydia and unlocked it?

I ran redsnow. It jailbreaked and unlocked it AND activated it. As soon as it was done I inserted the sim card and it immediately worked without a hitch.

Hmm.. so the new redsnow [9.something], will jailbreak, unlock and activate without having to install ultra?

I'm no expert on redsnow or ultra. This was my first outing with redsnow.
As far as I can tell redsnow did what I needed it to do.
