Iphone 2g 4GB Restore question unlock
I had purchased a Iphone 2G A1203 off ebay and I was wondering how I go about unlocking it now im not stupid I read all I could and have redsn0w-win_0.8 ready to go I am just unsure about something so I have to ask, this phone I have here when turned on shows a unlock screen with a itunes cable pic, when I plug it in it comes up invalid sim in itunes how do I check the software version of the phone or can I just grab a file like this one for example (iPhone1,1_3.0.1_7A400_Restore.ipsw) put phone in DFU and restore with this file then use redsnow?
One more question...
is there anything better to use other than Redsn0w?
Thanks in advance

use redsn0w but you have to point at the 3.0 FW and not the 3.01

Redsnow 0.8 did not work for me today, so I recommend Pwnage 3.0 tool and use this program and follow all the steps. Pwnage will unlock your phone on 3.0 and let you get started using and enjoying your iphone. Now Redsnow 0.8 will be good for you to upgrade to 3.01 fw. Pwnage will get you past that plug screen and unlock for the icons to appear and have either tmobile or att sim useable in your phone. I was a beginner just like you and pm for any questions.

but first should i restore to 3.0?
Restored to 3.0 now I am going to attempt to unlock with Quickpwn 3.0
Well QuickPwn said my ispw wasnt valid so I used Redsn0w and it worked fine but now what I am wondering is how do I get it to update to 3.01 and still be unlocked and all?
Ok so I used this file to restore (iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.zip) I used Redsn0w to unlock and it worked but now when I load cydia I go to sources add a source and it gets stuck updating sources how do I fix this problem, can I now update to 3.01 and if so what should I use to unlock?
Any help would be much appreciated.
I also used to cache fix for cydia retried adding sources and I get the same problem.Last edited by Appalot; 08-26-2009 at 04:24 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Open iTunes update to 3.0.1 run redsnow 0.8 select that 3.0 restore ipsw then complete redsnow then you should be good. Make sure u select cydia icy and unlock during redsnow prompts. Also open cydia an let it do a complete upgrade before u start installling stuff.

Cydia and icy installed together can cause problems. Better not risk it. Install one or the other.

Well I have tried everything Restored updated jailbreaked unlocked only installed cydia and the same damn **** keeps happening over and over cant add cydia.hackulo.us just stays at the sources updating, Downloading Packages part.
And I have followed everyone's helpful guides and still having this problem would anyone know what I would have to delete from the private/etc/apt/sources.list.d to clear all added sources by packages or whatever it may be.
Thank you in advance

Someone tell me the difference between talking about something and doing it? Someone also tell me why there is a rule for it if it's so pathetic? Whatever you may think of it, a rule is a rule. I wanna see how many people are gonna help you now. If it's not about you breaking the rule and telling people who follow it that it's pathetic, then it's just cuz you're not very nice.
P.S. It's not being scared. It's about not being rude.Last edited by i.Annie; 09-06-2009 at 10:56 PM.

Well sorry if I offended you and if you read my post again you can clearly see I ain't telling anyone to do anything other than help me out your the one being the a-hole. you could have directed me to the rules instead of making me look like i'm some goof when all I am doing is asking for help due to my problem with cydia.
I couldn't find the rules please direct me to the part you reference.
All I am asking if anyone else has had this problem please help?
I can't add any source none work properly I am at a loss here!
If you don't want to help than say so quit being a jerk.

Just to save yourself the trouble here is the answer to your problem. Your sources are installing but don't work; if you had both Cydia and Icy installed together that could be a problem and requires a restore and jailbreak in which you would download the according FW and use it with redsn0w. If that's not the case, there's something wrong with your Cydia in which you can try a hard reset or you can reinstall Cydia. You can find the files online. Restore and rejailbreak if all else fails. Cydia issues are difficult to fix and a restore would most likely fix any problem to begin with.
Oh yeah on the topic of reinstalling Cydia you can SSH (always back things up tho)and remove Cydia and put in the fresh stock Cydia you've downloaded. If it still doesn't work something went wrong during your initial jailbreak which means you should just restore and jailbreak again.
I'm not a jerk. I just don't think you should down talk people and then go around calling them jerks when you're the one causing the negativity with your own mistake.
You should think about what you say and simply heed others' warnings instead of making it out to be some silly threat. I light-heartedly told you and agreed with the poster above. You snapped back which was rude.Last edited by i.Annie; 09-06-2009 at 10:58 PM.
