turn off edge in 3.0???

ok, so used to have a first gen iphone, broke it, but now im about to buy a 3g from a friend for 100 bucks. anyway, i broke it a couple months before the 3.0 release, and a lot of this stuff i havent kept up on. so what im wondering, is if there is still the ability to turn off edge once i unlock/jailbreak? the plan i have with cincinnati bell doesnt include data, and the man who pays the bills (my dad) wont pay for it. so anyway, i need a way to turn off edge and just update stuff with wifi like i did with my 1st gen on 2.2. i can still do this right? otherwise i might be pretty screwed. anyway thanks for the help, and its good to be back.

Once jailbroken, install (from cydia) Boss Prefs and in this app, you have toggles to turn on or off a lot of features including 3G, Edge, Bluetooth, Wifi etc...
