iphone 3g activation

Hello, I recently purcahsed a iphone 3g off ebay which has currently stopped working. The problem is that the o2 sim card does not activate with the phone. When i recieved the iphone, I restored and updated it to 3.0/3.01. I think this has caused the issue as i now cannot use my sim or recieve a network. Itunes no longer asks me to activate sim. E.g the beggining steps: Welcome to your new iphone. I'm i able to fix this issue or would it just be used as a itouch/ipod.

P.s I also tried jailbreaking it which activated the phone successfully but does not activate the sim. Would I need the original sim card?

What method did did you use to Jailbreak? Did you unlock it also?

I used redsnow to jailbreak the phone. Did not manage to unlock it because i did not have a wifi connection.

You don't need wifi you can use edge to access Cydia and download ultrasn0w for the unlock. Take a look at this, you just need to ad the repo and then D/L it

Nope, sorry, I guess you will have to find Wifi somewhere and get it that way. It will cure your problem though. Surely you can find a wifi hot spot somewhere.

ok then, I am currently using wifi but its not mine. Will try this when i get in from work. Will be letting you know if it works.
P.s Once i do this, the unlock, Would i stil be able to use my o2 sim card?

You will not know for sure till you unlock it.

Hello, I managed to unlock the phone. This has not cured the problem as it still shows no signal. Is it a block?
