Hi, I bought one iphone from Scotland and i want to use it in Angola, the box was opened in Angola, i tried all the softwares to make it free but still got the same message " please insert one valid sim card", so i can only do emergency calls.

Is there any way i can anblock for Angolan territory ?

Now that the DEV team has also released their jailbreak utility, I'm wondering what the differences are between the two? On the dev blog, they mention needing to capture two files before jailbreak, I've not seen this mentioned anywhere else though, so for me, this has only added to the confusion. Thanks for sharing the guide though, it's much appreciated. Also, and I don't know if this could help anyone, but I've got a 3GS activated and working on A T&T, if there's a way for me to somehow extract the missing youtube settings, I'd be glad to do it and share before attempting jailbreak.

Now I know why all the mods left this thread after the last page, NONE OF YOU LISTEN!! Your 3G[s] Comes with an AT&T sim card in the phone. Run purplera1n(with the sim in the phone) or redsn0w, it doesnt matter. The phone will activate with any at&t sim card, ANY AT&T SIMCARD, ANY ANY!!!!!! Youtube will work, there are no settings to extract n0idea. If you all follow the simple guides posted ALL OVER this forum you will find answers. NHE123- get an at&t sim, activate, and walla!! You will get past the screen. Or just use redsn0w....

The problem is that i dont have the sim card anymore, the person who brought me the phone took it with him, Im in Angola and he left the country.

Is there any other way ?

Yes, download redsn0w and run it. It will jailbreak and hacktivate the phone. There are 2 links to tutorials on redsn0w on page 1 of this thread

I finally got it today but I must have done something wrong
the phone just hangs on the apple logo when it reboots, any ideas ?????

That happened just after I followed the steps here
Hack that Phone - Jailbreaking and unlocking the iPhone 3G S - with hacktivation

and specifically after I copied the lockdown file

any hints ???

Forgot to mention that the apple logo is accompanied by the spenning wheel after abour 20 seconds

I have been able to connect to iTunes in recovery mode then I started purplera1n and then it hangs once more on the GeoHot graphic

A hard reset led me to the same apple logo+spinning wheel hang

May be the lockdown file leaks the right permission.....

Ideas ?

Some possibilities:

1) Redownload the lockdown file. It might have been corrupted.
2) Check the ownership/file permissions of the lockdown file once you have copied it over. It should match the other files in the same directory.
3) Don't restore from a backup. Do everything from scratch and set up as a new phone.

Okay, so just to recap:

1) Use the sim that came with the phone to activate. This will not lock me into any type of contract/plan with AT&T.

2) Use purplera1n to jailbreak.

3) Use ultrasn0w to unlock.

Thi has NOT worked for me, in the UK 02 is itunes sim, I need three network, so I put the 02 Pay as you go in, registered the phone reset it. jailbroke it, loaded cydia, downloaded repo66.ultrasn0w.com, rebooted put my sim in and NADA, just goes too emergency.
stumped had to send the phone to the company that suppied the unlock software
PS) tried it several times and changed the sim ect got a mate to try it as well no good.

@Brecks: Look at the guide I linked to at the end of the first page. You will need to hactivate your phone by overwriting the lockdown file.

Got it unlocked today

restored the OS V3 then followed redsn0w tutorial

everything is working fine so far, however Cydia crashes sometimes.
