Hey guys. I have come here in the past And have gotten helped that totally worked. So here I am again

my friend just got a 3gs. He wants me to sell his original metal 2g iPhone. Now however when he boots up his the problem is when I hook it up to iTunes. The screen boots up the apple sign. Then a black screen. iTunes doesn't read it....


What can I do?
Apple says it can be replaced for 199 but..... Yeah 200........

Put it in DFU mode, restore in iTunes. If in DFU mode iTunes will see it. If you need instructions for DFU here ya go.
Good luck.

Step 1. Turn off iPhone
Step 2. Hold down the power and home button.
Step 3. When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the home button down.
Step 4. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that it’s in restore mode.

Alternative Method:
Step 1. Connect iPhone to USB then listen to the sound when it connect and disconnect.
Step 2. Hold the home and power buttons until hear the disconnect sound then release power button.
Step 3. Wait until you hear another sound then release home button.

So I tried the first way..... Didn't work. I am about to be home. Then I will try the other way.
