will my unlocked 2g iphone work in australia and new zealand?
Hi,
I have a US iphone that I unlocked to work with T-Mobile. I am planning a trip for visiting Australia and New Zealand a couple of months from now. Can anyone tell me if my iphone will work there?
Thanks
/Brian

As long as you're on GSM it should work fine (there are several GSM providers). I assume you want to put in another SIM card so you won't pay roaming rates? Even an unlocked phone will work, but you pay the roaming rates. I.E. when I travel to the USA from Canada my iPhone (which isn't unlocked) works, on AT&T, but I pay BIG roaming rates.

Cool, thanks.
Actually I plan to stay with my regular t-mobile SIM, but only make roaming calls in case of an emergency. Text messages only cost 35 cents to send so I can use those too.
I plan to use Skype when I am around a wireless networks to make non-urgent calls.
Hopefully that gets me by
Thanks again for your help

No worries! Can I come along on your trip?
Australia is a great place.

Yeah this is my honeymoon so we're pretty excited. So far the only countries I've been to (other than US) are Mexico, Canada and the UK. Should be a trip!
