Help getting started with it all!

Hello all!
I am brand new to this and have read on the forums for a few hours. I have some questions please.

I need to learn the basics and it seems that their are a few programs that let you install apps. Are these based on different programmers or time? New version etc.

Reading from this all I downloaded appinstaller and I loaded it fine but i couldn't find it on my iphone anywhere. I am tring to use ibrikr but i believe you cannot use 7.2.4 but I don't know how to downgrade.

I cannot figure out how to load the apps installer, i see it on the computer but when i open it, it tells me the file is damaged. I have re-downloaded it a few times. i'm so confused. can anyone help?
