Hey all,

As some of you will know, I have a iphone 3G 8GB locked to AT&T that I have in the BST section.

What I want to know is, is there a legal way to get it unlocked from AT&T?

And at what cost.

I can't walk in to a AT&T shop and ask because I am from Australia and we don't have AT&T here.

So has anyone here had a iPhone 3G legally unlocked from them? if so, how?

It was my understanding that there were several countries that had legally unlocked iPhones.
Italy and Australia and there may be more. But you live there (Aus)too, can't you get one there?
My friend lives in Melbourne and owns one.

Yes I have a Australian Telstra locked iphone 3G which I know I can legally get unlocked.

But I have a AT&T Locked one that I want to know if I can get legally unlocked and how to go about it.

According to my gal friend, they just check the imei and then can unlock it if you are using it in Aus., not sure tho. I would check with your carrier that your using now.
I see these iPhones on ebay all the time, They get a pretty penny for them $700.00 plus
If there were a way, most of us would have it done to ours.

AT&T WILL NOT unlock your iphone. Per their contract with Apple.

Because if I can't it just means I have to sell the phone back to the US or where ever AT&T is available.

I don't want to have to sell it here locked on AT&T because then I would have to go through explaining how to get it to work down here.

do you know if AT&T will ever make this a option as the 3G gets older? or not? have they let the original iPhone be legally unlocked?

I seriously doubt it. I spoke with My friend in Aus. last night and she said it was not possible to get a US iPhone unlocked. If they could I would send her mine to have it done.
Guess you'll just have to buy another Aussie legally unlocked iPhone.

That's what I was thinking, but I wasn't asking about my main phone, my main iPhone is from Australia, I just have one that is from the US which I am selling and that was the one I was asking about.

If you have BB 2.28 just use YellowSn0w.
If you don't then wait til the Dev Team unlock FW3.0
