Your advice, so I dont get screwed

I have a 3g which is one step away from unlocking.

The reason Im unlocking my phone is Im about to travel abroad for several years and I want to be able to use prepaid simcards along the way.

Heres my question:
Once I've unlocked can I keep using AT&T until I leave? (I leave in a week). Also, once I've unlocked and used a plethora of different sim-cards around the world can I just pop my at&t sim back in when I return to the states and resume service as normal? (My account will be active the whole time)

I've ordered the piggyback sim that seems popular.
Until that arrives I have a jailbroken 2.2 3g so I can go the yellowsnow route too.
Will this change my ability to keep using my at&t plan after the phone is unlocked?

Piggyback SIMs are notoriously unreliable (especially on 3G) and a total waste of money if you can use YellowSn0w instead.
Yellowsn0w will just work and can always be turned off.

No. As long as you don't upgrade to 2.2.1, yellowsn0w should be fine, and seemingly better than any piggyback sim option.
That shouldn't block your ability to use your at&t card. Nevertheless, if you plan to be out for "years", your iPhone will be obsolete, and the battery dead.

2.2 on 2.28.xx BB? Use yellowsn0w, it won't effect your at&t acct.

BB on 2.20 is 2.28.00
the additional .03 at the and came with FW 2.2.1 and BB 2.30.03

YellowSn0w is by far the best unlock method and at the moment, only works with BB 2.28.00 so make sure you do NOT upgrade!
