iphone 3g unlocking clarification

ok i apologize if this has been asked before, but im going to buy a 3g, the guy tells me its the bb 2.30, unk bootloader, unk fw.
now if its the bootloader 5.8 i can downgrade the bb to 2.28 and unlock using quick pawn correct? but if the bootloader is 5.9 i cannot downgrade the fw from 2.30, but can i use the gevey sim to unlock it still? and can it be jail broken on the 5.9bl, 2.30fw?

no... you cant unlock using quickpawn... only yellowsnow. you can check your bb using mobile terminal or fuzzylogic bb downgrader (thru cydia)

and yes, you can jailbreak any firmware, as to date. (including 3.0 betas)
