Please give me advice on this question

Hello all, sorry if i sound a bit noobish here but im am only used to the iphone 3g and not the 1g.

My freind brought her iphone on the day of relese in america and didnt get the at&t contract. she has since moved back to the uk and unlocked her iphone with the first software unlock and is still using firmware 1.0.5 or somthing rather low. she is using the o2 sim card out of her old A 2 and wants to update to 2.2.1 but doesnt want to loose her unlock. am i correct in saying that all we have to do is update it in itunes, quickpwn and unlock? do we have to put the origanal at&t sim card in to update the iphone in itunes? i dont think shes ever synced it but i could be wrong. Please help and again sorry for my noobishness.

sorry that should have been iphone 2g.

No, you need a custom firmware for 2.2.1 that doesn't update your baseband so a software lock is still possible.

If she is using a 2G iphone, the baseband will not update. She can upgrade to 2.2.1 and keep the unlock. It is for the 3G iphone that upgrading baseband is an issue for those wanting to keep an unlock.

I know that... The way it was worded looked like she was talking about the 3G.

Uhhh... no. Read it again. It clearly states "the friend" is on a low firmware "1.0.5 or something" and she wants to upgrade to 2.2.1. Since the iPhone 3G came with 2.0+ this would automatically mean she has a first generation iPhone. The reference to the iPhone 3G is the phone computid owns personally.

Thanks for clarifying since I didn't just state I interpreted that incorrectly the first time. -_-

1.0.5 wasn't an iPhone firmware either, hence the confusion...
