iPhone 3G Baseband Downgrade now posibble?
Recently, thin and hairy GeoHot found a flaw in the iPhone 3G bootloader, and now is able to downgrade the baseband and unlock your device with the help of Yellowsn0w.
Closely follow the tutorial below:
INSTRUCTIONS:
1 - Download the image of the baseband old here and patches here, download also the BBUpdaterExtreme here
2 - Place these files in a place where you will remember where they placed.
3 - Get everything you downloaded above to the folder / var / root, using any SSH client.
4 - Download MobileTerminal in Cydia.
5 - Open Mobile Terminal, and enter it below, and each line is a command (type in uppercase and lowercase letters!):
login
root
alpine
chmod 755 BBUpdaterExtreme
launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist
./BBUpdaterExtreme update -f ICE2_02.28.00.fls -e ICE2_02.28.00.eep
Go to General> About> Modem Firmware and you will see the number 02:28:00! Now you can have your baseband unlock the device by Yellowsn0w
I found this on the internet, i cannot confirm it yet, i`m testing it right now !!!]
Found this on a forum?
Fake or real? Google brings up one result when I search the red text.

I read on another forum that it only works if the bootloader is version 5.8, dont know how true that is but when you run through that process via mobileterminal it should tell you what version you have and gives the option to proceed with the downgrade. see it here
Verizon iPhone 4 jailbroken
iOS 4.2.8

error report
when executing last command in terminal it says:
CANNOT EXECUTE BINARY FILE
when fast quitting terminal at this point and looking up preferences there is no modem firmware at all but when the starting terminal again the iphone restarts by itself and afterwards ther is the actual 02.30.03 modem firmware again.
HAS ANYONE AN IDEA HOW TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM ?
thanks, dima.

I tried it, and I got nothing. Baseband stayed the same.
I downgraded from 3.0 beta 2 to 2.2 and tried this, didn't work for me.

A couple people on geo's blog said it worked for them. They were both on 5.08 though. 5.09 and 6.02 were no gos.

If you upgraded to 3.0 with the baseband upgrade, then you will be at the new bootloader most likely and the new baseband
