Unlocked 3G does not work with old SIM.Need help.
HI guys,
I just purchased an unlocked and jailbroken 3G off ebay. I am trying to make it work with my old SIM out of a first gen iphone.
After inserting the SIM nothing happens and i get "no Service" on the phone.
Can you please help?
Thank you

Restart the phone and see if that helps. Also, what firmware or well specifically baseband does your phone say?

How is it unlocked?? Legally by Apple? Cause otherwise its not unlocked with that baseband.

i got the phone unlocked. I dont think it is unlocked by Apple. The seller used Pwnage to jailbreak i can see that. i dont know the unlock method.
Would a total restore help? Or it will not work with an AT&T card at all?

What Im saying is....unless it came legally unlocked by Apple....it CANT be unlocked. There is NO software that will unlock 02.30.03 baseband.
So, its not working cause its not unlocked.
Now, it should work with ATT, which means there could be another issue. What Firmware is installed?

Thank you for your input.
Does the fact that the Carrier says: (null) (null) count?
Again Should i do a restore thru itunes since i am trying to use an AT&T card?
Basically should it matter that the phone is not unlocked if you are using AT&T?
Version is 2.2. And the firmware is 02.30.03
i did unlock several first gen's. I did jailbreak on all of them. Never any problem.
Here is another issue. I have another 3G just jailbroken. If i take the SIM out of that and put into the new 3G phone it still does not work. If i place into the 2G it works.
I just dont get it.Last edited by rolandgabor; 03-22-2009 at 02:39 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I would just do a fresh restore, of firmware 2.2.1. Hopefully that will help. Then jailbreak it again with quickpwn.

Well, then its the simcard, if its ATT I would go to them and just tell em you bought a 3g from elsewhere and your simcard wont work, and you need an updated one.

You could pop in an unlock sim card. It will work with your baseband.

Thank you guys for all the suggestions and help.
Just in case someone is reading this with a similar problem:
- I did a full restore in iTunes.
- I did a jailbreak
- All this with the SIM from the first gen phone in the new 3G.
- My phone is working flawlessly now.
It isn't unlocked but i have AT&T anyway.
Thank you again for all.
