Buy from ebay or from AT&T store?

Hi guys, I have a iphone 1.1.2 and now my father wants a similar phone

I have been out of the loop for a while and want to know whether to buy the phone from eBay or from the AT&T store. If I do buy from AT&T, can I unlock it and jailbreak it completely? If I buy from eBay which one (2G, 3G etc.) should I buy?

get from ebay if you want to unlock

2g=cheaper

Yes but they are used and I would prefer new. If I have to get a new one, which 3G should I get and is it unlockable?

well there are only 2 3g's and they are no longer unlockable new
