Okay so im thinking about buying a iphone 3g online from the At&t store
I want to get it cheap like for 199 for the 8 gb and it says you need to get the 2 yr contract. Well if i want at home activation what happens if I dont activate it within the certain time? Could I maybe hack it before i activate it, or will something still happen if i dont activate it within that time period even though its jail broken?

You still have to sign-up for a contract online before they will even ship you the phone. Use it or not.

There is no magic trick to getting one from Apple or ATT without a contract.

so if you dont activate it you still have to pay for it monthly for 2 yrs??

Yup. Or cancel the contract and pay the ETF. Or, they may just automatically charge you for the ETF (Early termination fee) if you dont activate it. You may be able to call them and find out. Either way, you pay. And it ends up costing just as much as buying one from ebay or elsewhere.
