Unlocking 2.2 Issue

I have a iphone 3g with tmobile using gevey3g sim adapter. If I update to 2.2 from 2.1 and jailbreak, I can continue to use my phone and get service using the sim adapter correct? I'm still skeptical about unlocking with yellowsn0w if I can just use my sim adapter. Thanks.

Apple has a new firmware available. v2.2.1

If your goal is to unlock do not update your phone until more information is available.

so i shouldn't update to 2.2? My phone seems to be giving me problems lately, not to mention I can't download the new 2.2 apps from app store.
