Default Will "iPhone1,1_2.2_5G77_Custom_Restore.ipsw" Break my iphone 2g

    Hi
I have an iphone 2g and A Macbook Running OSX. My iphone is running 1.1.1 firmware, is unlocked and originally from America. Not sure if it was Unlocked in England Or America. I want to update my iphone software to 2.2. I Have "iPhone1,1_2.2_5G77_Custom_Restore.ipsw" on my mac. I have been told that to be able to update my iphone safely i need to plug in my Iphone and click update in itunes (does this back up everything on my iphone to my mac). Then let it install. After that i need to Load my iphone into recovery mode and plug in to mac again. Open Itunes and then click alt and restore. Find the "iPhone1,1_2.2_5G77_Custom_Restore.ipsw" file and use that. After It has Finished my Iphone Should be Updated and unlocked. Is this correct or have i been told wrong? I really do not want my iphone to break beyond repair.

    Thanks Allot
    or

    Joe

Never use "update" on a jailbroken phone... you lose about 500MB of space every time you do. Instead use the restore button. Sync your contacts and photos or whatever before hand. If you have a mac the best way to proceed would be to use pwnage tool and build your self a custom jailbroken/unlocked firmware and just DFU restore using that. One step and it's done

i would first flash your baseband the stock version then update to 2.2 after that put your phone into recovery mode and RESTORE to stock 2.2 after that, get into dfu mode and restore to the custom ipsw
