i phone in recovery mode

i have bought an iphone that unlocked.
I went into itunes and it asked if i wanted to update, not knowing you shouldnt update if an iphone has been jailbroken. my phone then reported an error message and said i need to restore but when i tried to do this the error message comes up. I uninstalled itunes and re installed it again and now its now even linking up to itunes.. i am a complete novice when it comes to the iphone can any help me step by step what to do?

DFU mode,restore to itunes,quickpwn...

Hyi i put in dfu mode and shift restore but cont with the error message not to sure what the last bit means?
