Unsuccessful unlocking, Orange UK, why?!

UK phone locked to O2, I want to use it with my orange SIM
2.2 (5G77)
02.28.00 firmware

pwned using quickpwn

I've tried everything I've read on this subject, and every technique i can come up with of removing the sim, waiting, airplane mode, bossprefs, reset network setting, everything. even tried deletedin yellowsn0w and re installing it with the sim in, still no joy!

I was getting invalid sim, or sim failure with 9.4.

now I'm getting searching...then "no service".

every now and then i'll get a message saying the selected network is restricted, but now it's telling me it's no longer available.

still no service.

is is my SIM or am i doing something wrong?

I've even tried it with one of those piggy pack SIM things from unlock any network and that won't work either....

I have a O2 phone that was and wanted to use Orange too.

This worked for me
1. Restored phone to 2.2 with iTunes
2. Used quick pawn to jailbreak
3. Installed yellowsn0w
4. Put orange sim in
5. Rebooted phone by holding power and home button together until screen goes black then letting both go and powering back up. The after a around 20 secs full signal with my Orange sim card installed.

Worked for me so give it a go

a what? what's a DFU restore? and why would i need to quickpwn it again when it's already done?

Pull up mobile term and type: yellowsn0w -s and then insert the sim card. Wait a bit and it should connect.Also be sure your SIM PIN is disabled.

Just tried that. It put airplane mode on, when i turned it off it just switched back on again, i knocked it off again, it then said invalid sim and now no service.

DFU restore is a las resort surely? it'll wipe everything off the phone.

Hive i used the correct file? the one i used was iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore

yellowsn0w only works with iphone3G....

oh great...now the phone won't activate at all because itunes ain't happy with the orange sim card, it's now useless....cheers for that awesome bit of advice...

Just had to quickpwn it again as it was dead after trying to restore it through itunes....

first thing i did was download boss preffs, yellowsn0w and terminal.

no service (and no apps or music now either....)

Have you tried other sim cards to see if they work? If other sim cards work then it could be just that specific Orange sim card that isn't working with yellowsn0w currently. Remember that yellowsn0w is still in beta stage and some improvements are still to be made to make it work for everyone and every sim card in the world...

Just try a few other sim cards. If NONE of them are working then try a DFU restore. You won't lose your data if you sync with iTunes before hand then use iTunes to restore from backup after the Quickpwn process..

I am also in the UK and yellowsn0w 0.96 is working just fine on all sim cards I have available to try.

i've tried an O2 card in it but it's an old one and not 3G so i wasn't expecting that to work

and i've tried a vodafone PAYG card but that says no service too.
