I just got my new 3G and bought the sn0w download, but dont have cydia on my homescreen, what is cydia? I am new to iphone but not macs, please assist

Cydia allows you to install apple unapproved 3rd party applications onto the iphone easily. Think of it sorta like the App Store for apple unapproved apps.

In order to have Cydia you need to Jailbreak your Iphone 3g. Here is a guide and information oh the jailbreaking process.

I downloaded the firmware, but cannot get past step five, i.e. load firmware. A red warning box keeps appearing telling me I have loaded incorrect firmware. I live in the Turks & Caicos Islands nd cannot get any assistance locally, so am reliant on resolving this on the net... please help! I also cancelled the credit card payment to the dudes who ripped me off for the yellowsn0w fee. Hmm, where are Turks island? That must be a remote place!
Yeah this unlocking stuff can be complicated sometimes especially if you dont have someone local to give you a hand. On the other side there is another style (hardware)unlock solution which would maybe be easier for you. I bought my unlock sim card from Unlock iPhone 3G - Instant Unlock any iPhone
Its sim card that you insert into your iPhone and it fools your iPhone to behave like it is connected to the TT network. Works quite nice for me. Hope this helps.
