Turbosim vs yellowsn0w
Which is a better unlock method for iPhone 3G: Turbosim card or yellowsn0w software unlock?
Will either work with 3g 2.2 firmware?

Yellow snow is somewhat of a pita to get working properly, edge settings and so forth tend to be sketchy. I had yellow snow, restarted and the unlock was gone, I lost signal, and what took me sometime to get working is wasted, I found a newly released turbo sim on eBay for 35 with the usb updater I bought today, supposivly for 2.2 & 2.28 which is promising to be able to be updated for new bb and f/w updates from apple which at one time posed a threat of paying 10-50 for this unlock method each time something got updated. I havnt got the card yet, I will update once it comes and I get a chance to try it out!

Well, I'm surprised at all the negative yellowsn0w (positive TurboSim) posts. Wondering is this thread was stuffed ......
From personal experience, the current release of yellowsn0w (0.96) works flawlessly. It took a week for the Dev-Team to get to v0.96 and it was somewhat hit-and-miss. But now it's solid as a rock.
As far as Turbo Sim, about once every day or 2, I had to move my sim to another phone, make a call, access the internet .... then back to the iPhone. A real pain. This is clearly a known issue with Turbo ... and no plausible solution in sight. GPS was significantly restricted with Turbo. Without it (or with yellowsn0w), my GPS software finds signals very quickly.
Bottom like, Turbo was a temporary solution for me ---- until the real software unlock became available.Last edited by Mes; 01-09-2009 at 08:18 PM.

i'm kinda hesitant to upgrade to 2.2 since my phone is working good with Gevey sim right now. If yellowsn0w doesn't work...i'm screwed!!!
But it's looking like 0.9.6 is pretty stable and works for most ppl. I might just risk it and give it a try...

@gadga. As I said in my prior post, early yellowsm0w releases had some issues with the multitude of sim varieties. 0.96 is 100%. Check out the Dev- team blog. There's a user generated success/failure page. It looks almost 100% worldwide/carrier-wide.

Yellowsnow is currently the best. Provides me with better reception then the sim adaptor did. Version .95 had some problems (even though it still worked). But .96 works flawlessly. Id upgrade.

do you have to reinstall your partition / firmware to install yellowsn0w?

No...you need to add the yellowsn0w repo.
