Unlocking the iphone (when an unlock becomes available)

Hi all,

I have a quick question regarding unlocking the iphone. I know in the States you have to get the phone activated instore so that creates an obvious problem.

What is the most advisable way to get the iphone 3G in the UK however, can you still buy it from o2 online without activation like i did from the apple store for the 2g iphone?

You'll have to use eBay or Craiglist if you have that over there. Or you can pay like $800 for a factory unlocked one.

Go to a Carphone Warehouse, or o2 store. Buy a pay-as-you-go iPhone. Make sure it comes with version 2.1 firmware. They'll say "we can't tell you what firmware it comes with", which is a lie. They deal with them every day, so they know exactly what it comes with. If it comes with 2.2, walk away and buy one off eBay.

Sit on it until Wedsnesday night. When the devteam release the unlock, use Pwnagetool to upgrade to v2.2 and Jailbreak, then unlock the phone. After that, NEVER use iTunes to upgrade your firmware, always check the devteam website.
