I received my iPhone as a Xmas present with an unlock chip, it worked fine on Xmas day. But on Boxing Day turned the phone on and now cannot receive text messages. Has anyone had the same problem and knows how to solve it? Do I have to activate my phone? Cheers

If you are using the phone then it's activated. A phone that's not activated is stuck on the lock screen with "slide for emergency on the bottom." Can you SEND text messages? Can you make and receive calls? Need more information.

Hello Yorkshire Lass. The phrase "turned off" is probably key here. If you've switched it off, usually just go into Settings/Phone/Carrier, and where it says "Auto Detect", click the refresh icon on the right a few times. You should find the signal bars pop back up in a few seconds and then the network name should appear.

Personally I never switch mine off, just a dirty habit I guess. Silent at night, and airplane mode when, err, on an airplane

Hi Poseidon,
At first I could receive and send text also make calls but when people called me it went straight to my answer phone.
The next day could send text but could not get them and with calls I can make and receive them!
Sometimes I can't get a signal to Orange when all around me have full signals.
