So buying a iphone 3g today need some help

So since i heard it can be unlocked going to sell my sidekick and stuff on craigslist and got a buyer,and going to buy a 16 gb iphone on craigslist brand new,but what should i be looking for to be sure it can be unlocked on wednesday?

Firmware 2.1 or below.

so the guy at the store that i am buying my iphone from said it is firmware 2.1

does it matter which version of 2.1 it is?or all 2.1 will work?just to be sure i am not dumping 600 dollars away lol

There aren't multiple versions of 2.1. You just have to make sure it has never been updated to firmware 2.2 because the unlock coming out on new years is not compatible with that version. After you buy it make sure you don't update it.

alright cool,so to prep it do i need to do anything in order to unlock it?or will the tool do the jail breaking along with unlocking etc?

You will need to have a jailbroken 2.1 iPhone 3G and he unlock will be an available download on Cydia.
