iPhone 3G Unlock to Ship New Year’s Eve
Taken from my blog at The Apple Daily Times
Please Digg this to spread the news: http://digg.com/apple/iPhone_3G_Unlo...New_Year_s_Eve
The iPhone DevTeam (Dev-Team Blog) have officially confirmed the completion of the iPhone 3G unlock, dubbed “yellowsn0w.” This is to be built into PwnageTool, QuickPwn and BootNeuter in a way that first gen iPhone users are already familiar with.
The software unlock does, however, require that the user has a jailbroken iPhone 3G running a Baseband version equal to or lower than 2.11.07. Baseband versions higher are currently not supported. It has been suggested that in a few months, the possibility of downgrading Baseband firmware may arise.
On another note, the Team have also gone on to say that they believe the recent Mac OS X 10.5.6 update does not intentionally disable recognition of a device in DFU mode. They have offered three possible fixes, to be outlined below:
1. Replace the following plugin kexts from within IOUSBFamily.kext with the ones from 10.5.5 and then rebuild kextcache.
/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBHub.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOUSBCompositeDriver.kext
2. Use a USB hub in-between the DFU device and the Mac and insert/reinsert the iPhone’s USB cable.
3. Use a PwnageTool created .ipsw on Windows.
There is also word that work on the iPod Touch 2nd Generation jailbreak may begin sometime in the New Year.

sux to be me. i knew th risks of upgrading without pawange and the dev team had warned us all this time, but my 3g phone had horrible problems and i had figured regular update in itunes will update the baseband thus fixing my phone problems. IT DID.
But at the cost of not being able to use the upcoming software unlock.

Allow us to perform a simple check using the information presented to us.
You have 02.28.00, and the latest version you can have is 2.11.07.
(I see where this gets tricky, so hold on)
We just plug in the numbers and say:
is current baseband on phone( 02.28.00) less then or equal too (<=) the version stated (02.11.07)
now we break it down further.
02 <= 02 Check
28 <= 11 is 28 less then 11, well maybe with your math. Now I know what you are thinking WHAT THE FORK!!!!! HOLY HELL IN A HANDBASKET WITH KITTENS AND MUFFINS, DOES THIS MEAN I CAN"T UNLOCK????????
Yes, that is correct. You cannot unlock (or currently downgrade the baseband) for two reasons.
1. You are outside the limits.
2. You are retarded.
One of these will be fixed in the future while the other is permanent.

12-16-2008, 10:20 AM #9Instead of posting utter crap like the above, why don't you just do your job and discourage posts from idiots like defmute.OMG that's definitely the post of the day!! Since you seem incapable of fulfilling your duties, I'll do it for you:
I'm a newbie, I asked a simple question, which was already answered by alirz. So didn't need the smart arse comments which were posted by defmute.
How can you judge, if I was insulted!not in a severe insulting manner

Why can't you do simple number comparison and not ask stupid questions? (the setup is the same as every other piece of software major.minor.smaller) Since you are on a ton of other boards as you said you are obviously not a "newb", just only to this board, so you should know better.
This seems like a smart idea....
Well that was the goal...smack a dog when they misbehave and hope they learn their lesson.

12-17-2008, 05:32 AM #15I'm sure he is, and if he didn't make such a crap first impression, maybe things could have been different...po' is a cool person
Why cant you realise that when you see a thread in which a question has already been answered, anyone's normal reaction would be to move on and look at another post. Why can't you do simple number comparison and not ask stupid questions? But no, your reaction was: "Well, I'm not doing anything important anyway, so I guess I have time to burn replying to a post that has already been answered".
NO, now remember this lesson for next time, just resist the urge to post, and leave...
Good Boy

And why can't people who post stupid questions, that could be answered if they used their brain, argue when they get called out for be an idiot?
You are posting on a board about a topic where you had all the information to answer your question(it wasn't even in riddle form) before you even asked it. Do you not see how that would upset people for wasting space and time?
Now for such a small thread that isn't a problem, but now suppose you step into a mega thread with tons of pages And you see these questions:
-Well my phone is a 2.27.07 can it be unlocked?
-Well my phone is a 2.26.07 can it be unlocked?
-Well my phone is a 2.25.07 can it be unlocked?
-Well my phone is a 2.24.07 can it be unlocked?
-Well my phone is a 2.23.07 can it be unlocked?
-Well my phone is a 2.22.07 can it be unlocked?
-Well my phone is a 2.21.07 can it be unlocked?
-Well my phone is a 2.20.07 can it be unlocked?
-Well my phone is a 2.19.07 can it be unlocked?
Each a new post and someone answering it. At what point does it become ridiculous? Had each person READ the first post and compared TWO freaking numbers it would save space so when a REAL question that was ambiguous or not actually answered, someone could respond without sorting through pages of garbage posted by complete idiots.
I can't believe you are still trying to defend yourself. Someone pointing out you f'ed up, own up and move on and quit being a little ***** about it.
ps: Don't try and get smart with me you aren't qualified.
edit: I guess I should apologize, I didn't realize you were a 13 year girl.Last edited by defmute; 12-18-2008 at 07:00 AM.

Wow! I'm sooo happy. I have just checked my iPhone 3G baseband and it's 2.11.07. I thought it will be higher since I have updated it to firmware version 2.1. It's a good thing that the Universal Sim I'm using only supports up to 2.1 or else I would have updated it to 2.2. I'm looking forward for the software unlock. Good job and thanks DevTeam!iPhone 2G 8gb - version 1.1.4 unlocked/jailbreak (iLiberty+)
iPhone 3G 8gb - version 2.1 unlocked (Universal Sim V550) / jailbreak (QuickPwn)
iPhone 3G 8gb - version 3.0 unlocked (Ultrasn0w) / jailbreak (Redsn0w)

12-19-2008, 05:31 AM #19you kno whats funny, if you wouldve just told him no in page 1, there wouldnt be a page 2....it wouldve ended after your postit would save space so when a REAL question that was ambiguous or not actually answered, someone could respond without sorting through pages of garbage posted by complete idiots.
