1st gen iPhone unlock
Hi
new to the forums, but been a long time lurker and first time poster, I have a question regarding my 1st gen iPhone modding. I have been trying to unlock an activate my 1st gen iPhone but am running into a few problems with it. The iPhone came with 2.0 and when i use Ziphone it won't let me enter into DFU mode, when i use WinPwn it won't let me do it either. On WinPwn i do every step by step they tell me and then it won't go past the last step. Any help from you guys?

IIRC, ziphone can't be used for FW 2.xx. The easiest way to JB/Unlock that I've found is by using a custom FW. Check out this thread and follow the directions. It worked for me on two phones.

I had the same issue with one of my phones that I recently sold.
Just DFU restore to 2.1 with itunes 8.0. and Quickpwn with the 2.1 version. The quickpwn will do everything you need.
I tried the custom firmware but would not work some time and I end up deleting apps from the custom firmware that I found to work for me.Yeah I'm an iPhoneaholic!! So What!!!

To delete apps of the CFW once installed you need to SSH to the phone and delete the app power cycle the phone.

HELP!
I just recently used QuickPwn 2.2 to Jailbreak and Unlock my 1st Generation Iphone. All went according to plan until I placed another sim card in the iphone. It showed full bars but said "different sim detected". I was able to dial any number, but the annoying emergency screen would not go away. I'm sure that this it listed here somewhere and I apologize if this is a repost; but I could not find the appropriate thread.
Thanks in advance!
Chris
Nevermind.....I found the "lockdown" file and replaced the one on my phone and bingo; unlocked iphone 2.2 firmware.
Thanks to all that made this possible and special thanks to MODMYI.COM for this useful tool.

This is that lockdown process, it worked for me on a 1st gen(2G) iPhone with T-Mobile SIM:
Original post, credit to them:http://www.modmyi.com/forums/unlocki...k-2-0-2-a.html
Download the attached lockdown.zip, heres a link aswell: RapidShare: Easy Filehosting
SSH into phone using cyberduck/WinSCP
navigate to to /private/var/root/Library/ and copy lockdown folder to your desktop (for backup just in case
delete that folder from phone
unzip downloaded patched file and upload to phone to replace the folder you just deleted
navigate into patched folder and make sure file pemissions are set to 644 for all files
reboot phone...Last edited by dalethefarmer; 12-22-2008 at 09:50 AM. Reason: Found solution, added solution
