Iphone for ipod and music only!!!

i recently bought a 8gb iphone 3g off ebay and when i turn it on it shows the plug and itunes and it only lets me dial emergency calls. I dont have an att sim because i am with t-mobile. i am trying to just be able to use the phone for ipod and internet and to play around with it. Is there a way? How do i do it without unlocking it and buying programs??? please help me!!

^Yeah; I believe if you use Quickpwn to jailbreak it, it won't require a SIM card to be used, so you'll have all of the regular functions; Wifi, iPod, etc. minus the phone and SMS.

you will have to get a sim adapter that works with the firmware you are running. if you are running 2.2 good luck......2.1 it shouldnt be too hard to find. there is no software unlock for the 3g yet

i dont know much, i just got the phone 3 days ago off some guy who found it and sold it to me and it was locked. I connected it and i thnk itunes put version 2.2, but i downloaded quickpwn and jailbroke it...Where can i get a sim adapter? are the ones on ebay legit? they have a turbosim for 2.2 but im not sure if i should trust it..

do your research on the turbosim. be VERY careful. ive heard only ONE turbosim works with 2.2 i dont know too much about them but as im like always on here i have heard the feedback on them....only one has been tested and known to work
