Help with unlocking from att to tmobile sim
I have been using my iphone with att for a long time for services, and recently switched to tmobile due to better recption where i live...its also cheaper...i have already did the 2.2 jailbreak and unlock...but i did not unlock with the tmobile sim card in it, at the time of jailbreaking and unlock, i did not have tmobile yet. My question is, do i have to re do the whole thing with tmobile sim card in it for it to work, or can i just run the quickpwn and select unlock with the sim card in it? Or is there something else i have to do to make it work. What i dont understand, my daughters iphone will accept any sim card she puts in it, but mine always says "new sim card inserted connect to itunes to activate", i bought her iphone from a friend that was already jailbroke and unlocked with the 2.1....why would hers take any sim, and mine wont???
If anyone could point me in the direction i need to go, or give me a helpful link...i would appriciate it a bunch.

If you did indeed unlock it, it should be fine and take any SIM card. And no, you don't have to redo it with your new card in there. Once it's unlocked, it's good to go.

Sounds like you didn't unlock it. Try restarting the phone with the tmobile sim in it.

Everytime i have used quickpwn i selected the unlock option, and i tried to restart the phone with the new sim, but it still wants me to connect to itunes, but the top left corner shows tmobile with the connection bars...so do i have to do something in itunes to get this going, cause thats all it will let me do at this point.
And it says "different sim detected please connnect to itunes"Last edited by lisalisa911; 12-06-2008 at 11:19 PM. Reason: forgot to add something important...i think!

I used att during unlocking, because at the time i wasd doing the jailbreak for 2.2 i did the unlock also, and i was not using tmobile yet. I actually just switched carriers today...so i have the tmobile sim card in the phone, so should i just restore and re jailbreak/unlock all over again with the tmobile sim in it? I was hoping it was going to be easier then losing all my stuff.

There is a guide here that will help you out with Pwnage tool and also get you by that pesky itunes. You have to choose Activate iPhone. There is a newer version of Pwnage that does it through the Simple mode as the guide tells you how to do it with Expert
http://torrents.thepiratebay.org/452...59.TPB.torrent
That link is from the dev team at
blog.iphone-dev.org
If you are worried about the links. Its a torrent file so if you are not familiar with torrents i'll see if i can find somewhere online to download it from. Heck maybe its here somewhere i dont know. But with that the option Activate phone is needed so it will skip itunes which is described in the guide here

I beielve now, that each and every single iphone has its own mind...they run differently...i tried aeveral different ways to do this...all from which i read here...so needless to say...none worked. So what i did decide to do was do it the way i thought it would work. And guess what??? It worked...,and it only took me about 8 minutes from start to finish. I took alot of the info from eveyone in different forums and posts, including this one, and ran with it... i said what the hell, i can always restore if i mess it up. All went well, no problems...and it works beautifully. I can make and receive calls, i restored my itunes from backup, i can get online without any problems. It worked, and i am thrilled..so what i am going to do is post all the steps i used, in lamens terms, so maybe it will help someone else that has no iphone technical skills, and want to unlock their iphone.

Well good you got it to work. I got my replacement iphone and i had to do pretty much the same thing today. I was trying to remember what i did so i could best explain it cause I have to restore all my previous phone stuff. All and all its all easy the programs pretty much do it for you. However you got it good thing it works now before your phone became another expensive Frisbee
