HI! Everybody out there. I just bought an iphone 3G 8GB with AT&T as an upgrade to my current contract. The Iphone comes with software version 2.1. I use QuickPwn 2.1 for Windows to jailbreak my phone and it work successfully, but I have no signal bars. I have no need to unlock it because I use AT&T for my service but I was under the understanding that the jailbreak would activate it as well so that I did not have to pay the data package fees if active it through their 1-800 number. Am I doing something wrong here? remember this is a Iphone 3G with custom firmware 2.1 not 2.2 which I understand changes the baseband. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank You all and keep up the great work you guys are doing. I have not activated the phone with them yet. But I was wondering if I unlock it with a sim card unlock will it get activate it? Because I have also a 2G iphone which I never activated through them but I was able to activated using quickpwn 2.2 process that allows you to jaibreak and unlock the 2G. have you figured this out. im in the same boat as you. does changing the baseband, make the phone not able to send and receive data. cause i have zero bars. i thought at&t is raising the bars!! hahaa.
Well for the jailbreak problem, upgrade your QuickPwn to 2.2, you can get QuickPwn 2.2 on www.QuickPwn.Com, and once you do that, sync ur phone to itunes, n then restore it. once u restore it with NOTHING on it, simply jailbreak as u usually would, and then sync back with iTunes.
That method has been proven to work for me and many other people.
What I did is I got a IPSW custom firware 2.1 not 2.2 and restore with itunes which activated the phone automatically and than I jailbreaked it and up to now have not been sign up for the data plan. Hope this helps.
