    so can I upgrade to 2.2 on my 2g iPhone and keep it unlocked?

    NO If its 2nd GEN, 3G

    YES if its 1st GEN, 2G/EDGE

    Your wrong...Any iphone that is updated to 2.2 locks. Doesn't matter if it's 1st generation or 3G model. I think you can downgrade the baseband on first generation from what I've been reading, but have never tried.
