Need help with used 2G iPhone

Hi Everyone,

Thanks in advance for the help. I bought a used 2G iPhone from my friend for my wife. I currently have the 3G iPhone and we're on a family plan. She has some old crappy Nokia phone. She wants the iPhone but doesn't want the data plan.

She's been using the iPhone now just as an iPod Touch. She's put on music, apps, and has updated the phone to the latest firmware (2.2 I believe). The iPhone has my friend's old sim card in it.

I've been trying to figure out on the best approach so that I can connect her phone number to this 2G iPhone without having to sign up for the $20 a month data plan. Any help would be appreciated.
