Pwng 2.2 and 2.2 update failing
So I was going from 2.1 to 2.2. I am not a noob but always read the wiki walkthrough's thoroughly just in case...and this update is not going as the instructions state.
Well my iPhone has been stuck at the "new" apple logo with the progress bar full and in iTunes the status is, "restoring iPhone Software." It's going on over an hour now
I am very afraid to just pull it and try to force a DFU restore with the customer firmware bundle. I have no idea what the state of my phone really is at this point and why it's not progressing.
Interestingly enough the 2.1 update was also not smooth and I had to do a "regular" restore in iTunes then restore with a customer firmware bundle afterwards in order for it to work Should I assume I am to do the same to have success?
What does it mean that I am just stuck at the new apple logo an progress bar on my iPhone? Should I just pull it and try restoring regularly in iTunes to get to a jailed but unlocked state and proceed from there? Another 45 minutes or so and I'll start really worrying

I assume that you are using the first gen iphone. If the Mac is your operating system, create a custom restore.ipsw with the pwnagetool 2.2.1. Then put your phone into DFU mode and restore in itunes from the custom restore file that you created.
If you are using windows, restore to stock 2.2 firmware and then use quickpwn for windows, version 2.2.

You're not providing enough information. The original state of the iPhone was firmware 2.1. You then plugged into iTunes... did you hit UPGRADE? or RESTORE (to factory 2.2)... or Shift+Restore to a Custom firmware? If you hit the upgrade button then that was where you went wrong.. you always restore whether it be to a stock or custom file to the new firmware.

I have a similar problem and the problem is due to the fact I updated through itunes. I mixed up the option (mac) and shift (win) when I clicked restore and ended up doing the restore through itunes and allowing itunes to download the 2.2 firmware. Now my phone is always in restore mode (cable pointing to itunes). When I try to restore I get errors (1600 or 21). I was able to restore once but then itunes had a message stating "unrecognized sim card". What steps should I take to fix this issue. I have tried running pwnage and creating a new custom firmware, but haven't had any success restoring it.

I'm confused... are you running a Mac or PC? What happens when you hit restore in iTunes without the custom firmware? Are you putting the phone into DFU mode before you start? Walk us through the process...

I'm running OSX. When I hit shift and restore, it started to download the 2.2 update. Not wanting to stop it in the process, I let it update... which I shouldn't have.
At first putting the phone into DFU wasn't working. I would get error 1600 or 21, or it would say that the sim card was not supported.
I was able to get everything corrected, but I had to reinstall both pwnage and itunes. It took several attempts to get the phone in DFU and to run through the pwnage process and restore without any errors. I am back to my good ole unlocked/jailbroke iphone and everything is working.Last edited by dznrwlf; 12-26-2008 at 10:26 AM.
