how to update a 1.1.4 iphone to unlocked 2.2 without jailbreaking
hi
i have a 1.1.4 2g iphone that i bought unlocked and jailbroken
i would like to upgrade to the unlocked 2.2 firmware but dont really need or want to jailbreak . i dont mind formatting my iphone if that is necessary
what is the best way to do this? all the guides and software seem to incorporate jailbreaking by default
any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Assuming you're on Windows, go ahead and upgrade to 2.2 and the use Quickpwn to Unlock. Uncheck the options to install Cydia and Installer. You will still be jailbroken, but you won't really be able to tell.
Maybe someone has a better method for this? I'm not very well versed in unlocking at the moment.Respect your elders.

Correct. Just let iTunes update your FW to 2.2. The 2G FW doesn't contain a baseband update, so still unlockable. Then just use Quickpwn for OSX to unlock.

thanks
one last thing - the itunes popup says it will install fw2.1 - i have the latest version of itunes ... do i updgrade from 1.1.4 to 2.1 then to 2.2 ... then run quickpwn
or is there a baseband update in 2.1 that i should be avoiding?

You don't need to avoid the 1st gen iphone baseband. The current 1st gen 2.+ baseband (04.05.04) has been unlocked. Updating to FW2.1 will update your baseband from 04.03.13 to 04.05.04. Then FW2.2 will just give you the current FW, no baseband change. Quickpwn can then unlock, activate, and jailbreak your phone.

i updated using quickpwn on my mac with sim card in my phone ... everything appeared to go well (aside from itunes popping up something about needing to identify the device on its ipod software update server) and my phone is working great apart from i have no signal
i have read about checking an option box to enable the unlock in quickpwn but there doesnt appear to be one on my osx version ...
any help would be greatly appreciated

i have read that the osx version of quickpwn is broken and leaves 2g phones locked
so i now have a locked 2.2 2g iphone ... would it be worth trying to use pwnage tool for osx to try to unlock it?

I used pwnage to put 2.2 on my phone without any trouble, so I would give it a shot.

Upgraded to 2.2
Hey Guys i upgraded from 1.1.2 1st Gen to 2.2 and unlocked it using Pwnage. Everything works except that I have no signal. I dont have a 3G sim card could this be the problem? If not Do you have any suggestions.
Thanks
