Here's an interesting story. I was in El Paso Texas over the holiday and as I was driving down the freeway there was a big digital marque (sp?)sign outside the local mall it said: "unlock 3g Iphone here" followed then by a quick Tmobile advertisement.

I sure enough got off the freeway to investigate myself. I went to the authorized TMobile store and asked them about the advertisement outside and he said. "yes we can unlock a 3g Iphone but we don't sell them here". I asked him how much and if you they use a sim adapter. He said "it's $150 and we don't use a universal sim"

I told them I thought their was no such thing as a software unlock for the 3g Iphone. I told him are you sure it's for the 3g and not the 2g Iphone? He said "yes the 3g also, our technician who is not here today fixes them both." He said the tech won't be in until Monday after 3pm which is to late for me because I had already a flight booked for 10am that day.

I think I'm going to give them a call and see if I can talk to this "tech" and find out some more info on this suspicious activity.

LOL, sorry I totally forgot! I came back and worked all week I just barely unpacked yesterday. I'll give them a call for sure and make a post by Monday.

It's a hardware unlock. They open up the phone, take out the baseband chip, reprogram it, and put it back in

That's the method that then causes re-locks when updating the firmware.
