Activating 1st gen iPhone with 2.2
Hello,
Been reading, but can't seem to find a clear answer, or I just am not interpreting things correctly. Can someone clarify for me.
I currently use an unlocked & activated 1st gen iphone running 2.1 version software. I had done a shft+restore in itunes with a custom firmware from someone. I am on ATT but using a BB, and in testing in the past, if I don't unlock, then that sim card doesnt work for me. But if I only unlock and not activate then it still says wrong sim, and wont work. Sooo thats why I had used the custom firmware which included activation.
It would appear that if I did an upgrade in itunes and used quickpwn then I'd still be ok, but I want to do a fresh install and cleanup all the junk folders I see sitting on my phone when I SSH, from previous software installs/uninstalls. But when I do an install as new phone i'll lose the activation.
Since I don't have a mac I was looking into quickpwn, but it looks like that does not activate and only unlocks. Can someone confirm this?

quickpwn will activate, unlock and jailbreak. If you are doing it via the simple mode then it would automatically activate, if advance mode then just tick off the option to activate.

dude just do an install of 2.2 and then use quickpwn 2.2 and check the box that says unlock and it will unlock and activate for you. i just did this last night and it worked perfect

just for my own clarification... 2.2 does not update the baseband of the 2g firmware??? so it can be unlocked right??? i'm pretty sure the 3g 2.2 firmware has an updated baseband.

Thanks folks, worked just as you mentioned!! Did a new install with 2.2, then ran quickpwn and chose option to unlock. After was all done, worked with no issues.
unlockme: I do believe that the baseband update is only for the 3G. So your all set with unlocking the 2G.

remember not to activate on itunes
ignore it and just go thru the whole pawnage process
