    Default Activate iPhone 3g help

I've purchased the Any-Network iPhone 3g Unlocking Device.

When I insert the sim and turn the phone on I get to the "Sim Locked Insert an unlocked and valid SIM to activate iPhone." and a button I can click "Unlock Sim"

I click it and insert my pin, then I get the message "Unlocking SIM..." then after a lil I get "Pin Entry succeeded" but I still can't enter the phone, and when I connect it to computer and iTunes i get this message:

The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported.
Only compatible SIM cards from a supported Carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported carrier's store to receive a replacement SIM card.

Do Note: I don't have the SIM card that came with the phone as the phone was a gift from my gf, purchased via ebay. Please help with unlocking/activating so I can actually use the phone.

And also do note, even though it says "Only emergency calls" I can still call other numbers, and I get connected with "Orange" which is my network. I just can't access the iPhone and use the applications/sms etc.

Pleeasseee help a newbie out ^^, And thanks in advance for any replies.

    Default Hello

You have to Jailbreak the phone to be able to use it. Use QuickPawn, Beware of 2.2 Firmware. Stay with 2.1 for now. The universal-sims do not work for 2.2 firmware since the f u c k e r s changed the baseband. Look for a guide on how to jailbreak on the site. Quickpawn is the easiest but make sure to do your research before hand. PS> dont forget to thank fi this helps

I believe you can use 2.2 w/o changing the baseband if you use pawnage. do a google search iphone-dev team. and pawnage tutorials. There should be plenty of them on this site.

IMO 2.2 is extraordinarily better than 2.1. The performance increase for the phone makes it feel more like 1.1.4. Very very happy about that.

Alternatively, I think if you stick any AT&T sim in the phone it should activate, but I think jailbreak may still be necessary to use the sim overlay.
If i say something stupid I apologize. If i say something smart: "RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH".
And if i help you, please hit the Thanks!

Thanks ppl, I'll download QuickPwn. Tis what I looked at, but wanted to make sure

(QuickPwn got a good guide on how to do it yes?(: )

    *Ok edit part*

Just noticed that iblunt said QuickPwn and cartman said pawnage.

Which one works best and got the best chance of not harming the iPhone/software in any way?

And if there is a post here on the forum that you know about that's brilliant, would you mind posting the link? *looking myself*

    THanks in advance.

i don't think u want to use quickpwn if u plan on going 2.2 and using sim adapter.

don't update with itune, it'll update your baseband(sim adapter won't work with 2.2)
don't use quickpwn it'll update your baseband
use pwnage tool (mac only) to build a custom firmware without a baseband update

    if i were u i would stay with 2.1 firmware, and quickpwn 2.1 with it(not 2.2)
activated and jailbreak 3g, then put in gevey sim or which ever u like to use. then wait till iphone dev team come out with unlock.

remeber if u going to use quickpwn- 2.1 only!!!! and do not go 2.2, do not let itune 8 update your phone it'll go 2.2.

Well, oki. That's good enough and thanks.

But, problem is: Win, not mac.

And I have no clue on what to dl and use : / sorta need an easy going 'guide' to get the correct things to dl or ill be screwed (don't know what firmware I need, nor how to activate so I can use the phone -_- )

Oh and, I don't have 2.1 firmware, don't know how to get it, if I knew I'd just jailbreak it with any-network 'sim adapter' and just use the phone so i can call/sms and listen to music etc..

But I got no clue on what to do, totally new to iTunes, iPhone and everything (thus the i need a guide to follow ;p)
