Can't connect to ATT data network using Gevey Plus
OK, so I am trying to unlock my 3G using the Gevey Plus chip. I have another SIM that is used for my Corporate Blackberry which I want to get working in my iPhone 3G. Anyways, it works fine for voice and I get a 3G connection indication but whenever I try to use any data service it says 'could not activate cellular data network'. I know I have a data plan on my Blackberry Sim so I'm not sure what to try next. Any suggestions? Thanks!!!

data plans for the iphone are specific with att. if your using att why are you using a sim adapter anyways? im a little confused here. and make sure you dont upgrade to 2.2 or your chip wont work

I want to use my company paid for ATT SIM that I had been using my Blackberry. This way it's paid for by them. I don't want to have to have the ATT iPhone plan and pay separately. Are you saying not to upgrade to 2.2 because of the pending software unlock? Thanks!!!

lol i agree with cricketlang. i'm confuse too, but i think u get misunderstand by many att salesman that a iphone have to be on iphone plan, just put in your att chip, and for 2.2 fw, if u are putting in att chip, u don't need unlock, the only time when u need unlock is to put in a tmobile, o2, .... other carrier sim. ur sim will work with 2g or 3g. unlock or locked. don't matter. so take your gevey out put in your att sim, there, done.
and u can use 20 mega media plan, it work fine with 2g.

^^^thanks for the confirmation that im not the only one confused here. who cares if your work paid for it....its not needed. I am yet to see the blackberry data plan work on the iphone as the iphone has its own data plan. if you do get it to work then i will stand corrected but im yet to see this in action. and your data network issue could have to do with that adapter that you are using (for no reason) some of them have issues with data networks

Sorry for confusing you guys. I appreciate your efforts to help me so I will try to clarify.
I want to use my company paid for SIM card which was originally for a Blackberry. My company will NOT let me modify my corporate phone account to have an iPhone specific voice and or data plan. It's pretty simple, they give me the BB and they pay the bill. I want to put the Sim in my iPhone 3G and use that phone instead of the lame BB Curve. It works for voice but not for data using the Gevey Plus adapter. It never occurred to me to try it with out the Gevey so I will try that next and post back my success. I have read others having success using BB provisioned SIM cards but I just assumed they also used an adapter. Thanks again!!!
Well, thanks for the useful info; I tried my BB ATT SIM card without the adapter and seems to be working fine. I wish I would have known this before but I never came across that info in my searches. The data network seems to be working fine but the the only issue I can see so far is that the Visual Voice Mail is not working. I'm guessing there is no fix for that though? Thanks again!!!Last edited by wirelessness; 11-26-2008 at 09:23 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
