Got a new iPhone what to do??

Well its been a whole week since I got a new iPhone 3G on my birthday. I opened the box and turned it on a message appeared on screen saying iPhone needs to be connected to iTunes to get activated. I thought if I activated my phone it will get locked so I left the phone in the box and still its in the box. Now I want to use as it looks a piece of crap in my home.
My question is that what will happen after I will activate my iPhone?
Do I have to use TurboSim after activation??
How do I check from which carrier it was bought?
I am in Pakistan. I had iPhone 2G n it was provided by O2 at the bottom of its box O2 was written but this 3G's box show no sign of any carrier.

just use quickpwn 2.1 and jailbreak it, do not use 2.2, and 2.2 firmware. if u want a chance to unlock it with software. then use a sim adapter then u are good to go. sorry little late on replay, but i hope this will help if u haven't got it done yet.

Does any Pakistani cellphone providers sell the iphone locally? Like Vodaphone sells in India. If the iphone was bought from a legit provider and you use with the same company then just plug it into itunes and it will activate itself.

If the Iphone comes from US or some other country and it's locked. You'll need to get a sim like Universal-sim, Gevey 3G or Turbo sim. You dont really need to jailbreak the phone but it's better if you use the pwnage tool and jailbreak/activate the phone.

thanks to both of u guys. I have downloaded every software Ziphone, Winpwn 2.5, QuickPwn22 and PwnageTool 2.2. Firmwares i have downloaded are iPhone1,2_2.0.1_5B108_Restore, iPhone1,2_2.0.2_5C1_Restore and iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore. The first thing which is confusing me is that activating my iPhone. After connecting to iTunes it says Insert an unlocked and valid SIM to activate iPhone.
Than I moved to QuickPwn its written there tht please browse for the firmware bundle (IPSW) you currently have on your device. How do I know which firmware is installed on my iPhone??

There is no offical iphone seller. iPhone was bought from UK and its a gift frm a frnd. Can I use Pwnage tool in windows?? Isnt tht made for mac os????

try to get your phone into DFU mode iClarified - iPhone - How to Put an iPhone Into DFU Mode

Then go into itunes, it will detect the phone in DFU mode. You need to hit shift+restore and choose the firmware you want. I'd suggest going with 2.1. After the restore is complete you'll know which firmware the iphone has, so you can use quickpwn to activate and jailbreak.

And finally, you have to get a turbo sim in order to unlock it.

On a side note: Iphone usually comes with a sim in the box. Did u try using that sim and trying to activate it.

For unlocking 2.2 and 2.1 firmware 3G iPhone you can use this sim card Unlock iPhone 3G - Instant Unlock any iPhone I had luck with their unlock.
That is the easiest solution I think. Just use the sim card and your iPhone will be unlocked. Good luck!
