Help regarding replacement of unlocked 2G
Hey guys,
I had bought a 2G iPhone (2nd hand, dumb dumb dumb decision) and it was unlocked. Until recently I was using it as an iTouch (dint use the Phone features) cause I had a verizon connection.
Now I've got the AT&T connection and tried to use it, but to my surprise I am having extremely bad call quality. It is like I am standing in the wind. A lot of ppl have been complaining about this.
I wanted to know if I can get the phone replaced.
The issues:
Out of warranty
No Bill
Jailbroken
I've never dealt with apple-care so any/all advice would be much appreciated.

If its out of warranty, then all you can do is repair urself or pay apple too - which is gonna be $200.

Alright, restore to default state.. I would say restore to 2.1 or 2.2. This should take the unlock away... Then call apple ask to speak to customer care... Then say like well i bought an iphone from a friend and i have been using it for and there is a problem... blah blah blah.... Then they will probably say go to the apple store, ask speak with a mac genius.. Go to the apple store and play dumb with them, say stuff like well i bought an iphone from a friend and there's something wrong with it... See if they will give you a new phone. Since you're using atnt there should be no problem. Heck i have tmobile and when i got my first iphone that came with defected. I went to the apple store and played stupid, and i they gave me a new phone. JUST DONT SAY THAT IT WAS UNLOCKED OR JAILBROKEN OR HACKED!!!
If you might have to pay the 200 dollars.Last edited by sirluis94; 11-23-2008 at 12:45 PM.

Out of warranty - will never get a replacement, you can dream on about it.
Apple is a fork face company, you should have known this when you purchase an item from this company. They even gave me hard time when I brought in my 6mths old phone for a replacement because of the sudden deadstrip.

Well I am gonna try it. Whats the most I could lose? All I could possibly end up with is the phone I already have. I think i'm gonna do the dumb thing, or better get my gf to go and play dumb

I just wanted to know, if I restore to 2.2, would it delete all the apps and custom files i've put on the iPhone?

A restore will delete everything.
But as with everything else....out of warranty means just that, they're not gonna do anything. They dont give hand-outs.

If it's out of warranty, Apple isn't going to touch it with a ten foot pole unless you pay them to fix it.
If anyone else cares, a good way to see if any Apple Product is under warranty go to Apples warranty site:
https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
All you need to do is enter the serial number and country where it was purchased.

But from what I have heard, if its a fault from their end, like in the instrument, they would change it. Am I living in my own world?

u should restore the phone and run it again, see problem fix. it could be speaker problem too, or attenna, there's plenty part u can buy for the phone, and is very cheap. give it a try first. the iphone 2g speaker, have a piece of cloth, and it like to connect moisture and dirt, out of the many that i fix. have a same problem but on the speaker on bottom. i open the attenna cover, then took out the cloth(cover with who knows what lol), and sound got 100 percent better. so it may be the problem.

i just went to that warrenty site and it said i was still under warrenty even tho i never activated it. schweet lol
not like i ever plan on taking it to them. what would my excuse be? "its beat up cuz i carry it around to look cool since i can't use it and its never been activated"
goodluck, the genius bar people are so anal about things. if it looks used, and its not on at&t activated, they assume you unlocked it and hacked it right away.1.1.1>1.1.2>1.1.4>2.0>2.1>2.2>3.1>3.1.2 blackra1n'd
waitin on my white iphone 4

just dress well, and act piss off, and stuck up, lol. just say it doesn't work, everything, sound horrible, screen going in and out, blah blah blah, restore the phone, before u take it back. then say it don't work. u can get things done, just raise hell, and if they refuse just talk to manager. and just start going after manager. just complain and complain. tell get tired of it. they replace it and shut u up.
