How do I do this?

I just bought a new Iphone off ebay. The iphone came new in the original packaging (NIB) When I turn it on, it shows the connect to itunes picture (From looking at another site, they say the picutre show I have 1.1.4 preloaded) and itunes wants to activate my iphone. I want to unlock it to use tmobile.

My question is, do I have to unlock the 1.1.4 with winpwn? (i am on a pc) or can I upgrade to 2.1 and use the dev team unlock?

What is your best reccomendation?

well, i have actually read that link and it looks like it would work great. But I have a brand new phone, so I can't upgrade to 2.1 because when I plug my iphone into itunes I get the "welcome to your new iphone" screen where I am forced to activate through at&t. is there a way around this?

If its running 1.1.4.....your iphone has been "NIB" for a long long time. Cause 1.1.4 was gone awhile ago.

And we're assuming you have a 2G?

And to upgrade place the phone into DFU mode...then it will restore/upgrade.

Then you would preferrable want to use Pwnage to unlock.

thanks to both of you. I don't know why I didn't think of putting it into DFU mode and then doing the unlock. Thanks for helping me out so quickly.

yeah dude. anything with jailbreaking always starts with putting the thing in DFU mode.

for real. i used to just post on the front page news until i found these posts....now i love this place. i just wait for new posts. now i just need to actually get an iphone and retire this ipod. im hoping for either a trade or to buy one...from here of course. wish me luck!!!!

Some will be gone soon.

Gone? as in you will be selling them or they are just totally beyond restoring to functionality? i have done that with a few of my toys before.
